UNIDENTIFIED SAVED ORCHID MAKES IT'S DEBUT

As I was outside the other morning giving the Orchids a drink I found a cool suprise.

One of the rescued Orchid plants has decided to make her initial formal appearance just in time for Christmas. I had not even noticed her bloom spike growing before nor has this Orchid bloomed since I got her back in July.

The flower is about the sise of a half dollar coin and very petite.

I am not positive as to the type of Orchid this is yet. But it is going on my evergrowing research list.

Somehow I now have 17 Orchids. Each has it's own special needs which I am trying to learn.

The best part is that this Orchid was free from off of freecycle.

FREE ORCHIDS

Several months ago I joined the freecycle group in yahoo for my area. On freecycle people offer things that they would have thrown away to other group members who might have a use for them.

I was reading my e-mails and noticed an offer for Orchid plants that the member no longer wanted and didn't want to throw out.

I responded to the member and told me to come pick them up.

In total she gave me about ten Orchids in
the different baskets and containers pictured.

Most were alive and growing but were in need of root trimming and to be repotted into the correct growing medium for their type.

I have been trying to identify the different types by using the computer to research them. Each class of Orchid requires different type of light exposure , growing medium and water requirements to thrive.




I thought that it was fantastic to get these plants for free and hope that I can nurse them back to health .

Some of the Orchids can be divided and will make new baskets.

They will make a welcome addition to the garden and provide a challenge to me to learn about them.

And all this for free.
